The Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center for Women and Development (EJS Center) was founded in 2018 to be a catalyst for political and social change across Africa by helping unleash its most abundant latent power — its women. The Center aims to amplify the voice of women and girls in all spheres of life by increasing the representation of women in public service leadership roles in Africa. Role purpose

The EJS Center seeks to hire an experienced Director of Programs to develop and implement programs, including the Center’s flagship program – the Amujae Initiative, that champion women’s ascension to the highest levels of leadership and challenge system barriers to girl’s and women’s advancement.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The Director of Programs leads the EJS Center’s programmatic activities with primary oversight of the Amujae Initiative, the Center’s flagship program; develops new programs; oversees Programs staff; serves as the primary liaison with key stakeholders; and carries out the following specific tasks and responsibilities:

 

Program Strategy Development and Implementation

  • Provides strategic oversight over the development and implementation of the Center’s programs, including the Amujae Initiative in alignment with the Center’s mission and community needs.
  • Develops new programmatic initiatives to support the strategic direction of the organization.

 

Partnership and Stakeholder Management

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including specifically the Center’s founder Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, on matters relating to the Center’s programs.
  • Represents the organization at external events and meetings.
  • Reports on program activities, goals, and outcomes to key stakeholders including the Board of Directors, donors, and partners.

 

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting

  • Establishes and tracks operational, monitoring & evaluation frameworks for the Center’s programs including annual work plans, budgets and reports.
  • Communicates with members and other stakeholders to gain community support for the program and to solicit input to improve the programs.

 

Leadership and Team Management

  • Provides leadership and direction to the program team, including recruitment, training, and performance management of program staff, consultants, vendors, and volunteers as required.

 

Resource Mobilization

  • Works closely with the resource mobilization team to secure funding and resources for programs through grants, sponsorships, and other fundraising efforts.

 

 Profile

  • Master’s degree in relevant field.
  • At least 5 years’ experience as program director or other senior leadership position.
  • A sound understanding of Africa’s political contexts, governance dynamics, public policy, and electoral trends.
  • Experience working to advance gender equality in leadership and in program management.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in English and French.
  • Thorough understanding of project/program management techniques and methods.
  • Outstanding data analysis, reporting, budgeting, and problem-solving abilities.
  • High standards of professionalism and discretion.
  • Stays up to date with relevant political developments on the continent and in the rest of the world.

 

Terms of Appointment

This is a full-time position with an annual salary of $72,000 – $78,000.
