About

Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI)

Launched in 2017, CEPI is an international coalition of governments, academic, philanthropic, private, public, and intergovernmental institutions. Our mission is to accelerate the development of vaccines and other biologic countermeasures against epidemic and pandemic threats so they can be accessible to all people in need.

A commitment to equitable access is inscribed in CEPI’s DNA. It is core to CEPI’s vision of a world in which epidemics and pandemics are no longer a threat to humanity. CEPI’s commitment to equitable access informs every aspect of our work and has done so since our very beginnings.

Equitable access to epidemic or pandemic vaccines in the context of an outbreak means that appropriate vaccines are first available to populations when and where they are needed to end an outbreak or curtail an epidemic or pandemic, regardless of ability to pay.

Equity is at the heart of CEPI’s 100 Days Mission: its central goal is to enable timely availability of CEPI-supported products to those at risk, starting in just 100 days. That’s because being able to start delivering effective vaccines within 100 days of a threat emerging – wherever it is in the world, to whoever needs it most – will systematically reduce the threat posed by future infectious disease outbreaks for everyone, everywhere.

Of course, for the 100 Days Mission to achieve the greatest possible public health impact, the world needs a global health security system that is configured to deliver equitable outcomes. The COVID-19 pandemic has made it painfully clear that is not currently the case.

As we recover from the pandemic and prepare for new threats, it is vital that the system is re-engineered to produce better, more equitable outcomes in the future. CEPI is actively contributing, through its investments and its advocacy and policy engagements, to the urgently needed redesign of the system.

Role purpose

The Manufacturing and Supply Chain (MSC) Division’s primary goal is to support and drive vaccine process development, technical innovations, readiness for 100 Days Mission, and sustainable vaccine manufacturing for equitable epidemic and pandemic preparedness. The division is composed of 3 departments: CMC, MSC Innovations and Manufacturing and Supply Chain Networks, all supported by the Executive Director’s office team. CMC Department oversees and advises on the development, manufacturing, and quality control of vaccine candidates and biologicals, ensuring they comply with regulations, are safe and effective for use, and are fit-for-purpose to deliver on CEPI’s mission.

The Director CMC, reporting to the ED Manufacturing and Supply Chain division (MSC), leads the CMC department to enable CEPI’s product development projects towards successful commercialization, stockpiling of clinical material or contribute to process platform pandemic readiness. The Director ensures that CMC development efforts align with CEPI’s 100 DM and equitable access objectives. This role requires close collaboration with other MSC departments, the R&D team and external partners to ensure all activities are aligned with the objective of each project.
