Role purpose
We seek a dynamic and experienced leader to join as Blended Finance Managing Director.
The candidate should be an experienced banker with significant expertise in emerging markets and concessional finance and strong relationships with commercial banks, donors, and development finance institutions.
As Blended Finance Managing Director, you will report directly to the Chief Products Officer and be responsible for achieving the blended finance targets.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the deployment of IDB Invest concessional funds.
- Advise operations teams to structure and implement blended finance solutions that rebalance risk-reward profiles, with a focus on maximizing additionality and development impact.
- Oversee the timely and consistent deployment of concessional resources in line with IDB Invest’s strategic priorities and in accordance with the Development Finance Institution (DFI) Blended Finance Principles.
- Coordinate the distribution of technical assistance funds across different units within IDB Invest that offer advisory services, technical cooperation, and execute upstream initiatives.
- In collaboration with IDB Group’s Office of Outreach and Partnerships, develop and implement IDB Invest fundraising strategy and position IDB Invest as the partner of choice for channeling concessional resources to the private sector in Latin America and the Caribbean.
- In collaboration with IDB Group’s Grant and Co-financing Management Unit, ensure full compliance with donor agreements, including fiduciary, reporting, and operational obligations.
- Act as a public spokesperson for IDB Invest on concessional finance, presenting to the Board, external donors, Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), philanthropies, and other stakeholders.
- Lead efforts to capture and disseminate knowledge products on concessional finance, contributing to thought leadership in this space.
- Oversee the unit’s operations and ensure that donor fees and other financial resources are used effectively.
- Streamline processes and systems to reduce duplicative tasks, improve funds accessibility, and contribute to corporate efficiency goals.
- Administer funds for advisory services.
- Lead a high-performing team, providing mentorship and guidance to ensure delivery excellence.
Profile
- At least 10 years of relevant experience as a banker with a proven business track record. Expert in emerging markets investments, with a strong focus on concessional finance. Strong relationships with private commercial bank, donor or development finance institutions.
- Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Law, Engineering, or another relevant field.
- Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank’s official languages (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is required.
- There are no citizenship requirements.
- Consanguinity: No family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

We offer an international staff contract, initially 36 months, renewable upon mutual agreement.
